The “Poinsettia” is a simple but very festive Champagne cocktail that is ideal for Christmas parties.
It is named after the plant of the same name, which is often used as a Christmas decoration.
Ingredients, per cocktail
- 1/2 oz of an orange liqueur, such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier
- 3 oz of cranberry juice
- Champagne or any other dry sparkling white wine
- Fresh cranberries on a cocktail stick or orange zest twists (optional)
Preparation
- Chill all of the liquid ingredients in advance.
- Pour the orange liqueur and cranberry juice into a chilled Champagne flute.
- Stir thoroughly.
- Top with Champagne just prior to serving.
- Garnish with either fresh cranberries skewered on a cocktail stick or orange zest twists (optional).
Important warning!
Never add real poinsettia leaves to the cocktail (not even as a garnish on the rim of the glass) because they may cause allergic reactions and temporary blindness.
